Baby Praise

Luke 1:39-45

Verse 41  When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

It was no mistake that God chose these two women to be the mothers of the two promised children.  His big plan needed these two ladies to be close enough relation where they could be a support to each other and that Mary could visit with her older relative who was a little further along in her miracle pregnancy.  Mary was such a young lady and as an unwed pregnant lady would have been facing more than she wanted to think about.

Both of these ladies were carrying a special child with a special, pre-ordained job.  As these women knew the truth about their sons, they must have felt the weight of what it would mean to raise them.  An older lady who had prayed for years to become a mom may not have felt as prepared as she had thought she would be and yet was as excited as she knew she would be.  And then there was Mary who may have been looking forward to becoming a mom but was not expecting it so soon or in this way.

The moment that Mary entered Zechariah and Elizabeth’s home things started to happen which pointed to the greatness of God in the tiniest details.  One of the tiniest details of that moment was the baby Jesus, who was not much bigger than a speck of glitter at that moment.  On the other hand, unborn baby John was about the size of an ear of corn.  But their size didn’t keep God from allowing John to recognize the presence of the unborn Messiah.

This moment turned from being merely a moment of greeting between relatives going through something similar to a moment of spiritual relevance and worship.  As soon as Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting the Spirit of Jesus’ presence was made known to John in Elizabeth’s womb.  A baby that was 3 months away from being born was able to recognize the presence of the Lord and jump in response.  It was the first time the unborn Messiah was praised on earth.

At that moment of praise, Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and she started telling Mary how special it was that she was chosen among women of all ages.  It wasn’t that she was saying Mary was worthy of praise but that God was worthy of praise for blessing Mary the way He did.

Making It Personal

Do you know what God created you to do?  Are you living out His plans for you?  Do you praise Him for all the ways He has created you?

Making It Personal Kids

What are some ways God created you uniquely?  How could the ways God has created you, be able to be used for Him and His mission?  What can you praise Him about today?

Closing Prayer

Father, we praise You once again for Your attention to detail.  Please give us hearts of praise which look for all the mighty things You do in our lives and the world around us.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
