Exodus 35:20-35
Verse 31 The Lord has filled Bezalel with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts.
Yesterday we started talking about things that we have in us because God created us in His image. Today we are going to look at creativity.
God is a very creative being. If you doubt that look out your window and count how many different shades of brown you see. In fact Paul shows in Romans 1:20 that by seeing nature, people have no excuse for not knowing God. “For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see His invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.”
Have you ever thought about the ways that we can be creative? In the Bible passage today we see that God gave certain members of His chosen people creativity in some very specific areas. These people weren’t gifted with without specific reason. No, God had a very special job for His people. They had been instructed when leaving Egypt to request things from their masters and they were greatly blessed with all they were given. So blessed in fact that Moses had to tell the people to stop donating (Exodus 36:5-7). When was the last time you heard a church asking people to stop giving because they had too much surplus? I’m guessing never.
God had given Moses very specific directions for the building of the Tabernacle which is where God said He would meet with His people. This was a very special place and God was very intentional about how He wanted it done. He had even specifically created certain people with special gifts that were needed for these specific styles for the tent of worship. Each gifted so that a portion of worship of God would be just as God desired it to be.
God has created each of us with some creative ability too. Maybe you can create a beautiful piece of art or maybe you have an eye for photography. It could be you are gifted to put words together in creative ways or sing or maybe even play an instrument. Each of these are from God as a reflection of who He is so that we can worship Him using our gift and to aid others in worship of Him too.
Making It Personal
What creative gift do you feel God gave you? How can you use it for Him? Do you use it so others see Him and worship Him?
Making It Personal Kids
What do you like to do that is creative? Maybe God made you good at it so that you could use it to help people worship Him. How could you do that? What are some ways others people’s creativity could help you worship God?
Closing Prayer
Father, thank You for making us in Your image. Thank You for gifting each of us in special ways to help others worship. Show us where You want us to use these creative gifts. In Jesus’ name, amen.
