Creation Shouts His Praise

Genesis 1

Revelation 4:11  “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power,

for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”

When do you think praise on earth first started?  Have you ever thought about that?  We know that praise has been going on from eternity past in Heaven but think about what those first moments of earth’s existence were like.  There was suddenly heavens and earth, even though the earth was formless there was water, deep water, and it was covered with darkness.  And above the water hovered the Holy Spirit.  Even on that very first day in the existence of earth the elements were obeying God.  Obedience is the purest form of praise.

As the first few days passed on earth more and more things were being created to praise Him and bring Him glory.  Each day He said it was good.  And then on the 6th day He created humans, breathing His very breath into Adam.  After creating the man and woman God said it was very good!  He was especially pleased with the humans as they could have a relationship with Him that the rest of creation could not.  And they could praise Him in ways the rest of creation were unable to.  They could sing His praises just as the angels in heaven could.

Praise can be raised in glorious ways – through voice and through obedience.  But God knew there would be disobedience and that lack of obedience would cost Him the ultimate sacrifice – His Son.  The first humans aren’t the only ones guilty of breaking the flow of praise.  Our disregard of who God is, leads us to disrespect Him through disobedience.  But the flow of praise isn’t irreparably broken.  When we refocus our hearts towards obedience and our regard of Him is righted, our knowledge of who He is will lead us back to praise.

Jesus told the Pharisees as He rode into Jerusalem on the donkey that if the people were quiet about who Jesus is, the very stones along the road would be the ones to declare it (Luke 19:39-40).  Did you catch that?  Rocks would cry out!  They wouldn’t whisper the news that He is God, they would shout it!  God knows that His creation can’t help but sing His praise.  From the beginning through all eternity His name will be praised!  Don’t you want to be part of that praise today?  Can you keep quiet?  Let praise for the Almighty burst forth from you today!

Making It Personal

When was a time in your life that you remember praising God other than in church?  What caused you to praise?  Have you ever thought about the sounds you hear in nature as His creation praising the Creator?

Have you ever thought about how the birds singing is their way of praising God?  What other things in nature praise God?  Go outside today and see how many different things of nature you can hear praising God.

Closing Prayer

Father God, we praise You for Your creation.  You have created such a beautiful world for us to live in.  We praise You for the intricate ways You have created our bodies.  Help us never to forget that all was created for Your glory.  Help us live in obedience as a way of praising You.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
