Numbers 6:22-27
Verse 24 The Lord bless you and keep you;
Today we are going to start a short study about the waiting times in life. The times when we know where we are headed but have to wait the right timing to get there. We all know these times in life. The times where we feel like we are sitting in the waiting room of life just waiting for our turn to go through the door to what is next in life.
Maybe our wilderness waiting room is a time of infertility. Maybe we are awaiting test results that we are concerned about. Maybe the letter of acceptance from a college or the call about a new job is taking longer than we hoped it would. There are many times of waiting in life. The Israelites were in this exact place as the awaited leaving the wilderness to head into the Promised Land.
The wilderness is not void of lessons. We often treat the waiting rooms of life as an annoyance and yet they serve a purpose. If we use the time well, the waiting won’t be in vain. One of the most important things we can use our waiting time for, is to grow deeper in our relationship with God. Not just learning about Him but truly getting to know Him.
It is easy to think that reading our Bible once in a while and praying at mealtime or bedtime is enough to get to know who God is. We can know all about Him from reading the Scripture and yet that isn’t the same as knowing Him. We can read all we want about a celebrity but that isn’t the same as knowing them on a personal level. But it doesn’t have to be that way with God. We have the opportunity to really know Him on a personal level. In fact He is wanting a deeper relationship with us.
The times of waiting in life allow for our outlook to be righted. Times of waiting give us the pause needed to take the time to seek Him. We tend to fill our lives so full with meaninglessness that we miss taking the opportunities to know Him more. We need to be purposeful about our times of waiting and use them as the needed time to get to know Him on a personal level. Not just know who He is and what He does but to know that He cares about us so much that He is willing to let us deal with the wildernesses of life so that we will seek Him and grow to be like Him.
Making It Personal
Are you in a waiting room time of life right now? How will knowing God more intimately help you through this time of waiting? What steps are you going to take to get to know Him better?
Making It Personal Kids
Do you like waiting for something you really want? Does it help to know that your mom and dad will give you something if it is good for you and will help you be a good person? Is that the same reason God gives us things?
Closing Prayer
Father, thank You for giving us opportunities to take time to get to know You better. Give us a growing desire to know You, truly know You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
