Romans 15:13
Verse 13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
We talked yesterday about how important it is to learn more about who God is during our times of waiting, but is that all there is to do while we wait? No, of course not. One of the key things we can, and should do while we wait is to worship. We can’t wait until we are out of our time of waiting to worship. Part of knowing Him is knowing He will do what He has said He will do and so we can worship while we wait.
If we wait until we get what we are waiting for to worship God, it shows we are only worshiping Him for what He can give us instead of for who He is. It tells how our focus has shifted from the Giver to the gift. When we misplace our attention we tend to place something else as god in our life. Even if we haven’t received the gift yet and we are still in the waiting period we sometimes become so consumed by what we are waiting for that we make it an idol in our lives.
If we were to become purposeful in our worship during times of waiting we would find so many reasons to worship the Lord. One of the big pitfalls of waiting, is we become so obsessed with the desired item that we forget all the other reasons God is worthy of our worship, and there are many of them.
As we learn to focus on the many other reasons to worship the Lord, we will find it hard to keep those reasons to ourselves. If we are truly worshiping Him because of who He is, we will start telling others we come in contact with about the worthiness of our God. Even if He never did anything else for us, He is worthy of our worship simply because of who He is. The Creator of all things, sustainer of life, provider, and protector. He is worthy and we must worship Him while we await the next step of life that He is guiding us to.
Making It Personal
What do you have to worship Him for? What reasons do you worship God for that aren’t about something He has given you? Who can you tell about His being worthy of worship?
Making It Personal Kids
What kinds of things do you worship God for? What are some things you know about Him that is unlike anyone else? Who can you tell about all the things God is to you?
Closing Prayer
Father, we worship You for all You are. There is no one who is worthy of all our worship other than You. Help us to focus on who You are instead of just what You do for us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
